Tayfun Gülnar graduated from the Avni Akyol Anatolian Fine Arts High School Painting Department in 2009 and afterwards did his undergraduate study at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Painting Department.
Tayfun Gülnar creates new world by bringing together open landscapes and figures in transformation. Building his paintings with an expressive and symbolic visual unity, the artist’s past works examine the issues of social violence, injustice, and domination with a monochrome palette while his recent works are more colorful in their examination of states of life and death through humankind’s relationship with nature. Mostly producing with oil painting, gouache, and charcoal pencil in series, Gülnar recently focuses on a series in which he plays with the dimensions of 15th- and 16th-century European painting. Bringing his own interpretation by embedding the ancient architecture and mythological images of Anatolia into the works of masters such as Giovanni Bellini, Tiziano Vecellio, Giorgione, and Goya, Gülnar creates a new balance between traditional and contemporary perspectives.
