Doğum: İstanbul, 1984

Born in 1984, Burcu Urgut is an illustrator and painter who has developed a distinctive language in the field of visual arts.
After graduating from İzmir I.S. Fine Arts High School, Department of Painting, she completed her studies at Anadolu University in Eskişehir, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Animation. She then continued her education at the Cinematography Department of FAMU in Prague.

Adopting a cinematographic narrative style, Urgut’s paintings evoke 19th-century etching prints, creating a sense of anachronism by bringing these traditional techniques into dialogue with contemporary themes. By prioritizing tools such as ink and rapidograph pens, she invites the viewer into a narrative rich in detail, allowing each person to discover their own hidden stories within her works.

The artist presented her work to the public for the first time in 2015 at Contemporary Istanbul and has since participated in numerous national and international exhibitions and art fairs. Notable events include HOME Manchester, CONTEXT Art Miami, and the Contemporary Istanbul Art Fair.

Currently based in the UK, Burcu Urgut continues her practice in her studio, embracing an interdisciplinary approach that draws from cinema, animation, and illustration. Her works stand out with their layered narratives, taking the viewer on both a visual and intellectual journey.
