ARTIST ANNOUNCEMENT

Ağustos 2021

x-ist is proud to announce that it is joined by young artists Burak Dak, Gökhan Gökseven, and Metin Alper Kurt in the new season.

Born in 1988 in Istanbul, Burak Dak graduated from Avni Akyol Anatolian Fine Arts High School Class of Painting in Istanbul in 2009. He continued his studies in art at Mimar Sinan University Department of Painting. He joined the exhibitions First Weaving (2013), Signs of Time II, Outer / Dream (2014), Cross the Earth, Her Head is on the Balcony (2015), Celebration & Memories (2015), The Journey to Me (2015), Illustration (2016), and If You Don’t Have Another Plan (2019). In 2014, he joined Contemporary Istanbul with Signs of Time. His works were displayed at the first and second editions of Open Exhibition in Open Space as part of “40 Meters, 4 Walls, 8 Cubes” which was one of the parallel events of the 14th Istanbul Biennial.

Utilizing metaphorical discourse based on the creation of new form by a gathering of multiple images, Dak sets off from myths and folklore with inspiration from half-human, half-animal mythological characters.

Born in London in 1988, Gökhan Gökseven completed his undergraduate degree in Illustration at Ringling College of Art and Design in 2009 and started his master’s degree at New York Academy of Art Department of Painting. He partook in a number of group exhibitions abroad and displayed his works as part of Take Home a Nude (Sotheby’s, 2015), Mamurt Art Project (2017), and Closed Doors (Müze Evliyagil, 2019). He opened his first solo exhibition A House on a Hill in 2018. He’s based in Istanbul.

Starting off from the idea of making silent paintings, Gökseven explores the idea of creating untitled and uncertain stories. The artist sets the figures based on his self-image against a unique background with daring use of color.

Born in Ankara in 1995, Metin Alper Kurt studied arts at Hacettepe University Department of Sculpture and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw Department of Sculpture. He continues to study for his master’s degree which he started at Hacettepe University Department of Sculpture in 2018. He has joined the exhibitions Closed City (2016), Mamut Art Project (2018), Other Bodies Are Here (2018), Videonist, “Kent” ve Memory (2018), Base (2018), Hominid (2019), Baselected-I (2019), and Infilling (2020).

Examining the functional structures of objects through the material of marble, Metin Alper Kurt creates his works through aspects of objects that are prone to deformation in order to stabilize time and form.

Burak Dak, Gökhan Gökseven, and Metin Alper Kurt, who met with the audience as part of Intersection, x-ist’s discovery series for young talents, will be represented by the gallery for the first time at the 16th edition of Contemporary Istanbul.
