Ahmet Polat,"From Favelas to Fashion" @ Sao Paulo

Haziran 2013

ICP award-winning photographer Ahmet Polat will be working in São Paulo this summer to complete his project; "From Favelas to Fashion". Started in Campo Limpo, São Paulo, 2006, Ahmet Polat photographed the story of a talented group of 4 young designers who were living in poverty most of their lives. He followed them in their daily lives where they struggled to find a place for themselves in the fashion industry. In his photos, Ahmet Polat examined their education in the Campo Limpo slums, all the way to the point where they are working backstage during São Paulo fashion week. The artist documented their hope, their passion and their journey. In the second part of the series, to be completed during the month of June this year, the artist will document their stories so far.

Ahmet Polat is going back to see if they were able to fulfill their dreams and reflect on their experiences of the past 6 years. The 4 designers from Campo Limpo; Mariana, Leandro, Bruna and João Carlos will all present their latest work and collection, curated by Ahmet Polat at the Museu do Teatro Municipal opening on June 26th, 2013. This project is supported by the Municipality of São Paulo, Municipality of Amsterdam and the Mondriaan Foundation.
