Mercy

Hüseyin Arıcı

12 September - 10 October 2020

x-ist welcomes the new season with “Mercy,” Hüseyin Arıcı’s solo exhibition. Open between September 12 and October 10, 2020, the exhibition will be Arıcı’s third solo show at x-ist.

Hüseyin Arıcı sets “Mercy,” his third solo exhibition at x-ist, around a prayer. The concepts of reality and illusion, on which the artist focused in his previous shows, can also be encountered in this exhibition.

Centered around a prayer, Arıcı emphasizes the fact that humans live in constant deception directed both towards themselves and others due to their illusion of good and bad.In his exhibition, he begs forgiveness for humanity which feeds on bullying, massacres, abuse, class discrimination, hubris, and greed. He underlines how humanity is helpless in the face of nature, religion, and rituals while creating its own descriptions of good and bad or fake and reality.

Arıcı prefers to explain spirituality by expressing the emotions aroused by nature in him and he often includes these two concepts in his art. At this point, he features ancient beliefs, mythological stories, and descriptions of forms and movements from nature in his exhibition “Mercy.”

Hüseyin Arıcı’s criticism towards the concept of ready objects pushes him to produce his own ready mades. By blending various techniques on acrylic and oil paint on polymer clay, he disrupts the audience’s perception of reality by creating forms that are close to their original. In this exhibition, the artist’s questioning of reality is embodied in the ready mades he diligently crafted.

“Mercy” can be visited at x-ist between September 12 and 10 October .
