In Its Own Weight

Metin Alper Kurt

11 September - 11 October 2025

Shaped under the title “In Its Own Weight”, this exhibition draws upon the tension between the fragile and the solid nature of marble, creating a distinct language of expression while also focusing on how this tension can be conveyed in formal terms.

In his recent works, the artist breaks away from the conventional perception of marble as “heavy” and “durable,” transforming the stone into delicate and fragile forms. Through this transformation, he seeks to render visible the emotions that often remain in the shadows of everyday life.

The balance established between fragility and resistance in the sculptures merges with the silence of the stone, giving rise to a unique field of expression. Every trace left on the surface of the marble reflects both the memory of the material and an emotional layer of human experience. In this way, a natural bridge is built between the tangible structure of the stone and the invisibility of emotion.

Shaped in a simple, quiet, and measured manner, these forms invite the viewer to sense the emotions hidden within the boundaries of marble. Each sculpture carries a meaning “in its own weight”—encountering the audience both as a physical form and as a frozen trace of emotion.
