Paper, Rock, Time

Metin Alper Kurt

17 March - 30 April 2022

Metin Alper Kurt’s first solo exhibition at x-ist “Paper, Rock, Time” comprises works with which the artist examines the spontaneous appearances in moments of transformation for the sake of emphasizing fluidity, fragility, and softness. Focusing on instances rather than time itself, utilizing the parts of a whole instead of storytelling, Kurt reflects the images of his fragments through the use of marble as material.

Sculptures, in which past, present, and future are structured in a holistic form even when following a non-linear path, express “instance” in a plane outside time. The image of the series idea to objectify and scale words relays the instantaneous appearances of objects such as paper and notebooks into which they are processed. Sculptures bear the effort of jotting down substances and gestures in motion.

New interpretations, opened up by the artist’s exploration into the nature of the material, capture a holistic visual presentation of sculptures for which a heavy material such as marble has been meticulously made lighter and shaped.

Metin Alper Kurt’s first solo exhibition at x-ist “Paper, Rock, Time” can be visited between March 17 and April 30.
